TEAM QUOTES:

Richmond: “Last year when we ran Richmond International Raceway, it was exactly what I looked for during the race,” Allmendinger said. “We had such a good car on the long run. Then I think on the last restart we had a good one and it got us up to sixth and that’s where we finished. That entire race is what I go to Richmond generally looking for on a long run. It was a solid night. We hope to have a solid night Saturday for SCOTT Products and all our partners. We need it to change our luck.”

Finesse: “Richmond is more of a finesse racetrack than where we just raced at Bristol (Mo,” Allmendinger said. “Bristol is a track you attack and gouge and run into each other and Richmond is obviously not. Richmond you can’t burn the tires off the car.”

Center and forward drive: “You hear it all the time where drivers complain about center forward drive off,” Allmendinger said. “If it doesn’t turn the center, you have no forward drive off. It’s one of those places I feel like the last couple of years we’ve had a lot of long runs there. You can really focus on going out there and you don’t have to turn the center amazing, but if you just turn it good enough that you can get your car pointed off the corner to have great forward drive. On long runs, you will pass guys so easy. Really the focus during practice is getting that rear grip and that horsepower to the ground and just saving the rear tires.”

Balance: “I think it is finding the balance in practice,” Allmendinger said. “Most of the time we are practicing during the day and both races are at night. So, trying to find that balance of what is tight enough and not overly tight compared to what is good enough forward drive off. That’s always a tough thing to kind of figure out during the daylight. At night, we all have our notes and what we think the car is going to do, but again it’s about trying to find that right balance during practice. You really never know until you get that long run in the middle of the night that you know how good your forward drive is.”

Get a sticker: “It’s just about connecting the corner and not being loose in, not tight center, not loose off and keeping the balance consistent through the whole corner,” Burns said. “I feel like this is one of the places that we can go ahead and get our sticker on the door for The Chase. We will take this race just as seriously like we do every week and as we do for road courses.”

Things you can control: “I like the track because it really is a fun place, and as a driver you can do things to help yourself there,” Allmendinger said. “You can do some stuff out there to make the car actually better. You can use some throttle control - - easy on the throttle. As a driver, you can help yourself out using throttle and brake.”

Patience: “Richmond is a tough race,” Allmendinger said. “You look at it a little like Martinsville (Speedway) and Bristol. It’s a long race and you have just got to be patient. A lot of things can happen. It’s a long night.”

Hoping test proves beneficial: “Having the opportunity to test at a place like Richmond was a big benefit for us,” crew Brian Burns said. “With our short track program as strong as it normally is, we unloaded with a good baseline setup at the test and it will make it even better for the race. Hopefully, the test will really help us unload ahead of the competition. Last year, we had one of our best finishes at Richmond. It was one of our best runs of the season and we feel like it will be even better this time."

Starting point: “Since we had the test, we really have a good starting point,” Allmendinger said. “We have a smaller box to work out of.”

New car: “We are taking chassis 505,” Burns said. “It is a brand new car that we took to the test to shake it down. So, it will be the first time racing.”
