Race: O'Reilly Auto Parts 500
After showing good speed and running in the top 10 at the start of the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500, AJ Allmendinger went on to finish 20th in his No. 47 Kroger ClickList Chevrolet SS at Texas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon.
“We started the race off really good with our No. 47 Kroger ClickList Chevy and I was excited for the first run,” Allmendinger said. “The car had a pretty good balance and had some good speed in it. At the end of the run there, I was making a ton of time on the guys in front of me so I was really happy with our speed there.
“Then the track took a hit and just got slicker,” Allmendinger continued. “It brought out the weakness in the car and from there it was really loose-in the whole time. We could never fix that. We tried to tighten up other stuff to help it, but never got that loose-in feel to go away. The track was just slick enough that I couldn’t carry speed into the corners. We fought that the rest of the day. We got everything we could out of the day. I think we showed promise. The direction, we had more speed than we have had all year on the mile-and-a-halfs. We still have some work to do, but a day like today is promising.”
