Race: 5-Hour Energy 301

After AJ Allmendinger led laps 91-103, the San Jose, Calif.-native crossed the finish line 13th behind the wheel of his No. 47 Better Than Bouillon Chevrolet SS in the 5-Hour Energy 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon.
“Compared to the last three months, today was a really good day,” Allmendinger said. “The long run car was awesome, probably the best I’ve been in a long time here on a long run. The short run, I was just too loose. Those restarts and those initial 10 laps made it really hard. I would get so loose. The long run was so good. It’s a happy medium. We tightened the No. 47 Better Than Bouillon Chevy up a little bit for the shorter run at the end there and it helped a little bit on the restart, but then I got too tight at the end. Today gives us something to build off of. I think long run wise it was definitely a top 10 car.”
“I wasn’t at my best today either,” Allmendinger continued. “I’ve been battling strep throat. It was very hot today and I got frustrated at times because I wasn’t feeling good. Brian (Burns, crew chief) and the guys did a good job. The pit crew was solid again. I will get a little bit better, but hopefully it is something we can build off of. We will go and have a fun week at Kroger and hopefully have a good week at Indy (Indianapolis Motor Speedway).”
“I’m really proud of the driver today,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “We had a good car all weekend, but the driver was definitely under the weather. He did a really good job fighting all the way until the end. To kind of turn the boat around and get us going in the right direction, this is definitely a positive for us. We needed this. The whole organization needed this.”
“It’s been a tough couple of months,” JTG Daugherty Racing team owner Tad Geschickter said. “We haven’t got the finishes we deserve or wanted. The guys have really dug deep and done a lot of extra homework and I’m proud of the result today. We led laps, we beat a lot of good cars, got a top-13 finish and we are getting back on the right track. Everyone dug deep, AJ was a little sick today, but drove his heart out. I’m pleased how everyone pulled together. We’ll move on and try to win Indy.”
