We had a BUSH’S influencer panel dinner on Monday and some fun at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday as they took the wheel to make some laps. So far so good: “It’s been a good year so far,” Allmendinger said. “We’ve got some good racetracks coming up in the next few weeks. We’ve just got to keep pushing. It’s getting into the summer months. It’s kind of where we will see the gains we’ve made. The last couple of years as a single car team, we’ve identified some weak spots that kind of separated us from the big teams and I think we’ve plugged those holes up this year. I think the summer months are going to be better. Every weekend, you’ve got to bring it the best you can.”

Dover: “It’s such a fast racetrack,” Allmendinger said. “You’ve really got to have the back of the No. 47 BUSH'S Beans Chevrolet SS under you because as soon as the car starts getting loose, you can’t be in the throttle around there. You really struggle especially off of Turn 2 and Turn 4. The banking kind of snaps out from under you. It’s a tough place. You’ve got to have enough grip in the race car and with this lower downforce package, that’s going to be tough to do. It’s always a fine line. You’ve got to make sure the rear of the car is under you, but keep turning through the center enough. It really boils down to what kind of tire they bring. At times, we’ve seen the track really rubber up where there are chunks of rubber on the racetrack. You’ve got to kind of maneuver the car around that. We’ve seen the tires wear into kind of a powder and there’s not a lot of rubber laid down. We will see how that plays out through the course of the weekend.”

Turns: “Turns 1 and 2 always seem to get a little bit slicker on entry so the car really gets free as you kind of get into Turn 1 and the way the No. 47 BUSH'S Beans Chevy lands, it feels like you are jumping off the end a building and you land in Turn 1 and the car gets really free there," Allmendinger said. "Turns 3 and 4, it’s really weird. It’s got definitely more grip getting in, but if you run the bottom it gets tight in the center of 3 and 4. Although the corners look fairly similar they definitely drive a lot different. So, I think that’s what is tough about Dover, is the fact that both ends of the racetrack you really have to maneuver around it and fight two different areas of the race car.”

Making gains: “In the last couple of years, we’ve struggled at Dover a little bit,” Allmendinger said. “I feel like we are going to be a lot better when we get there this weekend. Our race cars are definitely improving. We have made a lot of gains over the course of this year thus far.”

Good place for the driver: “Dover International Speedway is a very unique place,” crew chief Randall Burnett said. “It’s really fast. It’s small and really tight with obviously a lot of banking. I’m really looking forward to going to that place. AJ really gets around there pretty well and we feel like we’ve been gaining on our short track program. We ran really well at a smaller version of Dover, which was Bristol Motor Speedway a few weeks ago. We had some things that didn’t go our way there, but we feel like we’ve got a good base for the No. 47 BUSH'S Beans Chevrolet SS at Dover.”

First Dover experience: “In 2007, I showed up there to do the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, but I was also running the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the time and I remember my crew chief not letting me get in the truck right away,” Allmendinger said. “He said 'No, just watch these guys off of Turn 4 real quick.' I was standing down on pit road and Ron Hornaday came off the corner the first lap and it looked like the tires were not even touching the ground. He was wide open. The motor was screaming. I thought to myself, 'What the heck is this place?' I don’t know if that was good or bad for me to see before I got in the truck, but that will always stick out in my mind and that's Hornaday sideways off of Turn 4 with the tires looking like they were not even touching the ground. Then my crew chief said, 'Jump in this thing, let’s go.'”

Spotting the Monster Mile: “The Monster Mile is a quick place and things happen really fast there,” spotter Coleman Pressley said. “Spotting is really difficult making sure the driver is clear up off the corner. You always use all the real estate up off the corner - - making sure no one is to AJ's outside is a premium. You are constantly monitoring the rubber sticking to the racetrack and where the lines of the other guys are. There’s a lot of stuff that happens during a 400-mile race at Dover International Speedway.”
