RACE: Good Sam 500
DATE/TIME: Sunday, March 13th / 3:30 PM ET
Start:  22nd
Finish: 17th

AJ Allmendinger and the JTG Daugherty Racing team battled to finish 17th  after experiencing a tire problem and a tight-handling No. 47 Fry's/SCOTT Products Chevrolet SS at Phoenix International Raceway Sunday afternoon. The finish jumped Allmendinger five positions to 20th in the driver points standings, only 15 points out of 16th place.

“We started off fighting what we fought all weekend and that was we were just tight," Allmendinger said. "Some of that was a little bit expected.  Knowing what this place does, we tightened the car up a lot and tried to do a couple of things to help it turn, but we had tightened the No. 47 Fry's/SCOTT Products Chevrolet up overall.  We started really tight, but like usual Randall (Burnett, crew chief) and the guys kept making the right adjustments. We actually had one run where I thought we were really good.  We tried to go the same direction on that change and I think we got over the limit and we blew the right front tire out. I could feel it.  I had to pit because of that and it got us kind of out of sequence.  At the end there, I thought we were decent. I think we salvaged the best finish we could salvage out of a rough weekend and that is all you can ask for.”
"We had some tire problems,” crew chief Randall Burnett said. “AJ really had to take care of the right front. He had to nurse it all day long. AJ did a great job of doing exactly what he needed to do to keep the right front tire on it. We finished on the lead lap, got 17th out of it and had a good points day. It could have been a lot worse. He did a good job catching the right front going down on us. So, we had to pit there under green. Fortunately, for us, the caution came out and we were able to do the wave and get back on the lead lap. That saved our day. All in all, it was a good effort with everybody on the No. 47 Fry’s/SCOTT Products Chevrolet SS team.”
“We’re usually not happy with a 17th-place finish, but considering this weekend was a struggle and we had tire issues, we will learn from it and work on that,” competition director Ernie Cope said. “It was good to see the way everybody fought all day. We had adversity multiple times during the race and nobody gave up. We just kept fighting. I believe we got the best finish we could with what we were fighting against.”
