Race: AAA Texas 500
Date/Time: Sunday, November 8 / 2 PM ET
Start:  30th
Finish: 17th

After running inside the top 10, AJ Allmendinger and the JTG Daugherty Racing team posted a 17th-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway with the No. 47 Kroger/SCOTT Products Chevrolet SS Sunday afternoon. The on track performance showed promise for their mile-and-a-half program as Allmendinger ran top five competitive laps times late in the race. With two races remaining, the team hopes to cap off the season strong at Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway respectively.

“It wasn’t bad, our No. 47 Kroger/SCOTT Products Chevy wasn't bad at all," Allmendinger said. "We were definitely way better than we were the first time we visited Texas earlier this year and that's progress. I thought we had kind of decent early speed and we were trying to find the balance. I got some damage on pit road from another car and looking at it now it’s not good. That body damage definitely hurt us for sure. We were just on pit road and everybody was checking up. I got into the back of another car and our car got drilled from behind. That definitely didn’t help. From there, I just couldn’t quite figure it out.

"We would have decent early speed, struggle on the middle speed, then have better long run speed and then right there we got the car too tight and the track changed on us a little bit," Allmendinger said. "I was just way too tight in general.  We fought hard.  We got a decent finish out of it.  I think we could have been a little bit better, but we are learning.  We have two more to just keep trying to get better before next season.”

“It’s not a bad thing to be disappointed in a 17th-place finish in Texas,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “This place has been really tough on us in the past. We didn’t have some things go our way, but we definitely had a top 12 car all day long. We just needed a little more luck and things to go our way. We also had a whole in the nose and didn’t know how bad that was until after the race and that definitely hurt our speed. Early in the race the right rear damage hurt us a little bit too. We still had a top 12 car after damage to the front end and right rear of the car. Maybe if we had no damage and luck would have went our way, we would have had a top 10 car for JTG Daugherty Racing and our brands. At a place like this, that is a step in the right direction for what we’ve struggled with at these types of tracks.”
