WEST CHESTER, Ohio (June 29, 2016) - - With The Kroger Company headquarters based only 24 miles down the road from West Chester, Ohio, in Cincinnati, AJ Allmendinger is prepared for one of his biggest store appearances to date.
Allmendinger is scheduled to meet fans, sign autographs and participate in an action-packed afternoon when he checks into store No. 945 at 7855 Tylersville Road Wednesday, July 6th from 5 PM to 6:30 PM prior to racing his No. 47 Kroger/Clorox Chevrolet SS at Kentucky Speedway.
“This is Kroger’s home turf and this will be one of our biggest Fan Fest events shoppers,” Allmendinger said. “You don’t want to miss this one. If you’re camping out at the track for the race weekend or you just live in the area, stop by and have some fun with us while you are picking up your tailgating supplies or items for your big cookout at home.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the Kroger No. 47 racing team and welcome AJ Allmendinger to our Tylersville Road store,” says Jeff Talbot, Vice President of Merchandising, Kroger Cincinnati/Dayton division. “We know many of our customers are huge racing fans so we are excited to give them the opportunity to meet and interact with AJ.”
After meeting his fans at Kroger, Allmendinger sets his sights on the company’s home track Kentucky Speedway where he tested mid-June. The track underwent a comprehensive renovation where they repaved the entire 1.5-mile layout and increased banking in Turns 1 and 2.
“Kentucky Speedway is definitely a lot smoother, which wasn’t hard to do for how rough the racetrack was,” Allmendinger said. “It’s going to be an interesting race. The two corners are a lot different from each other now. Turns 1 and 2 are kind of your typical banking. Once it sets down in the corner it has a lot of grip in it. Turns 3 and 4 are really tough and challenging corners because it’s not off camber as you get in. You don’t feel like you’ve got a lot of banking especially in the low lane there. The car gets really loose and it’s easy to kind of lose the front or rear tires. So, I think it’s going to be challenging to see how the track kind of plays out. It was one lane when we were there and nobody’s was going to move up in testing. Once you kind of you get the NASCAR Xfinity Series cars or the NASCAR Camping World Series trucks on track, maybe a second lane will open up especially when they do double-file restarts. When we were there recently, it was definitely one groove and if you made a three inch mistake, you were kind of in the dust and you were almost wrecking. Hopefully, it will widen out. It is definitely faster.”
Live coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event on Saturday, July 9th airs at 7:30 PM ET on NBCSN/PRN/SIRIUSXM.
