Thursday appearance at Kroger in Chester, Va.:  “I’m looking forward to being at the Chester, Va. Kroger store (store #524 at 10800 Iron Bridge Road, Chester, VA) from 5:30 PM to 7 PM on Thursday evening to meet customers and sign autographs,” Allmendinger said. “You never know what we have up our sleeves at these appearances. We have a lot of fun with them. Come on out and see us while you pick up your groceries or tailgating supplies. We hope to see you there.”
Hard work will pay off: “Richmond in April was tough for us, but we’re optimistic going into this weekend,” Allmendinger said. “The last time we were there, my car was sliding around, it was sideways and had no forward drive. I was just hanging on to it. We just fought loose the whole race. My guys have really been working hard and we are looking forward to a better weekend.”
Learned from the past: “Looking back at Richmond we were decent in practice, but just really fought loose during the race,” crew chief Randall Burnett said. “We’ve learned from that and like AJ said we’ve worked hard to make it better.”
Multiple grooves: “I’ve always felt that Richmond is the most raceable short track that we go to on the circuit,” spotter Coleman Pressley said. “It provides the most racing grooves of any other short track that we go to. It’s a very cool track, as far as, the braking into Turn 1 - - it’s really hard braking. You have to take care of your brakes all night. The biggest thing that I’m interested to see is this low downforce package, because in the spring the groove really widened out more so than it normally had in the past. So, I’m interested to see how that transfers over to nighttime racing and seeing if the groove will widen out as much as it did in the spring. Also, you want to get the car rotating good around the corner and up off the corner, just make sure you can be aggressive and can clear cars up off of Turn 2. That seems to be the challenge area because it closes up so much on the exit of the corner.”
Improvements: “Darlington (Raceway) did not go the way we wanted it to go obviously, but I look back at the last five races and we have a top five, two top-10s and four top-15 finishes and that’s a slight improvement from last year where we only had one top-10 finish in those races (Pocono Raceway, Watkins Glen International, Bristol Motor Speedway  Michigan International Speedway and Darlington Raceway),” Allmendinger said.
It's a process: “We've had some bad luck this year, but this year we have made some progress and my guys are really working hard," Allmendinger said. "You look at the No. 78 team and it shows it’s not an overnight process. You don’t just wake up and say you know what I’m going to go into the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and we are going to go dominate races. It’s taken over ten years of hard work to slowly get the team better, get the personnel, get everything in order to go out there and compete at the highest level, but they also show that you can do that once you get the right people in place. It shows with hard work and putting the time in that a single car team, no matter with an alliance or not, can go out there and make it happen."
