CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY POST-RACE REPORT
Race: Coca-Cola 600
Date/Time: Sunday, May 28th / 6 PM ET

Debris punctured a hole in AJ Allmendinger’s No. 47 Harris Teeter ExpressLane Chevrolet SS right-rear tire on a restart at Lap 27 that forced him to pit under green losing valuable track position and more importantly laps in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Luck was not on the team's side as they battled the majority of the race to return to the lead lap. A red flag and rain delay at Lap 143, gave the team a break to regroup and discuss strategy. Back to green flag racing, later on a caution finally fell Allmendinger's way at Lap 328 and he was the Lucky Dog recipient. With not may laps left, Allmendinger did everything he could to make up lost ground and go on to finish 18h.
"You know, we've had some really bad luck and what can you do when you have a tire go down and it sets you way back at the start of the race," Allmendinger said. "All you can do is fight and not give up. We just had a caution and the race just went back to green. From that point on, it was a battle to get back onto the lead lap. We weren't giving up. It's been tough lately, but we have to have some better luck."
“We have speed and we were running top 10 laps times and there’s nothing you can do about a punctured tire,” crew chief and competition director Ernie Cope said. "There's nothing that anybody is doing wrong. We've just had some bad luck lately."
