AJ Allmendinger was knocked out of the race at Michigan International Speedway when two cars below  him made contact at Lap 61 and collected his No. 47 Kroger/Crisco/Hungry Jack Chevrolet SS while running just outside the top 15 Sunday afternoon. The damage was substantial and unrepairable. Allmendinger was credited with a 38th-place finish and is now 20th (27 points out of 16th) in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver points standings.

“I’m not really sure what happened," Allmendinger said.  "I think (Dale Earnhardt) Junior got hit and I was on the outside of him and that was it. It ended our day. It was kind of weird back there.  I’m not really sure what kind of car we had. I thought in clean air we weren’t too bad, but I guess a lot of people could say that."

“We thought the car was okay,” crew chief Randall Burnett said. “We had good speed in clean air and it was real competitive. We just got caught up there on a restart. AJ was on the outside of some guys and got caught up and pushed up into the wall. I’ll have to see the replay to see what exactly happened. We came off Turn 2 and hit the wall really hard there. It broke quite a bit of right-front suspension. It bent some uppers and it bent the frame bad enough that we were not able to go back out. We had to call it a day. We’ll go on to Sonoma (Raceway). We’re really looking forward to that one. We will go back to the shop, work extra hard and try to win that one.”

“We were kind of maintaining where we started the race and had moved up a few spots,” competition director Ernie Cope said. “We were just kind of looking for some long green flag runs and for the race to play out a little bit. AJ was doing a good job and unfortunately somebody got underneath the car we were racing with and got up into us and ended our day. We will rebound.  We will look and see where we are and where everything falls out. We’re going to keep fighting.”
