EVENT: Geico 500
DATE/TIME:  Sunday, May 1st / 1 PM ET
TV/RADIO: FOX / MRN Radio / SiriusXM
Start:  28th
Finish: 14th
After being collected in two major wrecks, AJ Allmendinger kept with the draft to cross the finish line in 14th-place with the No. 47 Kroger/HungryJack/Crisco Chevrolet SS at Talladega Superspeedway. Allmendinger was credited with leading lap 53 of the 188-lap event. He also picked up three positions in the driver points standings and is currently 14th.
“In both wrecks we were collected in, I have no clue what happened," Allmendinger said. "Actually, the No. 47 Kroger/Hungry Jack/Crisco Chevrolet had pretty good speed and it would suck up to cars when we still had all the quarter panels and everything on it. I was pretty impressed. We could fall way back and get some  pretty good runs. So, the speed we lacked in single car stuff, it had it in drafting and we were able to suck up to a bigger pack.  After the first wreck, the guys did a great job to piece the car back together because it was tore up - - just to be able to maintain laps. They kept us on the lead lap after all the repairs they did. They did an even better job trying to put the front end back on it for the last two laps. I just held it wide open until we crashed again. We came home with a 14th-place finish after all that today.”

"AJ did a great job all day long," crew chief Randall Burnett said. "We got collected in two accidents not of our making. One at lap 160 and one there at the very end coming to the checkered flag. The guys did a great job of putting the No. 47 Kroger/Hungry/Crisco Jack Chevy back together to maximize our day with a 14th-place finish and pick up a few spot in the points. We'll move on to Kansas Speedway."
