AJ Allmendinger’s hopes for his JTG Daugherty Racing team to advance to the Contender Round in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup ended at Dover   International Speedway as they finished 23rd in the race, which placed them only two points out of a transfer spot and 13th in the championship points standings. Although, the team's goal to advance was not met, there is something to be said about the journey. Allmendinger won his very first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International (8/10/14) placing many of the team members and sponsors in victory lane for the first time at the pinnacle of the sport. Allmendinger's victory gave the team their first Chase berth and kept their dream alive until the closing laps at Dover International Speedway.

“We didn’t give up at Dover,” Allmendinger said. “It was an awful day, but I have to thank my whole team. My pit crew kept giving me good stops. We kept throwing the kitchen sink at it every stop. My crew chief Brian Burns did everything he could to keep trying to make it better. We just missed it all weekend. It’s disappointing to miss it by two points, but we didn’t deserve to be in it with the run that we had. We have to look at it – I’m not going to take a moral victory out of it to miss it by two points because it’s disappointing, but we know we are making steps in the right direction. We are beating some good cars, but we have seven races to go. Just because we didn’t make it to the next round doesn’t mean our season is over with.  We have to keep working and get better. We have seven races to go. I will be disappointed tonight, but be ready to go tomorrow morning.”

“It’s all I had,” Allmendinger said. “I tried to get every spot possible. Thanks to all our sponsors and Hungry Jack for coming on board for this race. I know I’m way better at this place than what that looked like. I know we have to run better. Running 23rd, you are not good enough to keep moving forward. I’m proud of everybody on my team. We have to go run better. We’ve got to keep building on this.”
