With two races remaining in the the Challenger Round, AJ Allmendinger is in striking distance of a Contender Round transfer spot following his 22nd-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway in the No. 47 Kingsford Chevrolet SS. Currently 14th in the Chase for the Sprint Cup driver points standings, the team is now focused on the next two races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Dover International Speedway and earning a top 12 spot in the Contender Round.

“It was not a good weekend, but we still have a shot at making it to the next round if the next two weeks go well,” Allmendinger said. "We were off and just missed it all around at Chicagoland Speedway. I thought we made the Kingsford Chevrolet better towards the end of the race, but by that point it was too late. I don’t know. I’m just frustrated. I got everything I could out of the day. So, we finished as high as we should have right there at the end."

"The positive out of a tough weekend is that we are only five points out of a Chase transfer spot heading into Loudon (New Hampshire Motor Speedway) and that's the big picture," crew chief Brian Burns said. "We made a lot of changes trying to make the car better. It started off really loose and then it was tight through the center and buzzing the rear tires off. AJ needed rear security and forward drive and then he was tight. Then we had some bad luck. The top of his gear shifter broke off and then he thought he had a tire going down. We did the best we could to make the most out of the day."
