AJ ALLMENDINGER NOTES:

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series came to a close Sunday afternoon at Homestead-Miami Speedway on a warm evening under the lights. JTG Daugherty Racing driver AJ Allmendinger was on the fast track to a respectable finish in his No. 47 SCOTT Products Win My Car Toyota Camry until he noticed something broke, which forced him to go behind pit wall to the garage. The crew identified the problem as a broken right-rear shock mount and rapidly made repairs to return Allmendinger to the track. Allmendinger completed 257 of 267 laps to finish 36th. He will return full-time to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with JTG Daugherty Racing in 2014 with crew chief Brian Burns at the helm.

There were 22 lead changes among eight drivers and eight caution flags for 37 laps. In the end, Denny Hamlin won the season finale while Jimmie Johnson clenched his sixth-career championship. He bested Matt Kenseth by 19 points.

QUOTES:

“Something broke in the car; right-rear shock mount,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “It is not really anybody’s fault. We really had a good-handling car. Coming back to Homestead-Miami Speedway next year, we definitely have something good to unload with for that race. We learned a lot by making so many changes during the race to make the car handle even better. If we would not have had the problem we did, AJ would have had a run at the top-10.”

“It was disappointing to have what happened to us because I was having a lot of fun out there and we were picking off positions,” AJ Allmendinger said. “We were able to make gains. I was not trying to get too crazy out there with the track being as slick as it was early on, but I was having such a good time. I felt like even after the shock mount broke, all the adjustments we made, the car was driving well. I learned so much. I learned how to run the top around here and felt really comfortable up there, which helps us for next year. I felt the car was really good up there.

"It is good and bad," continued Allmendinger. "It is unfortunate, the finish. However, I thought we had built a good car, especially where we started and how far we had climbed before the problem we had. I am really looking forward to next year and I am thankful for the opportunity. I have enjoyed the time I have had with the team and sponsors so far. I appreciate the guys for working so hard. I love these guys and we have a lot of fun. Next season is a fresh start and I cannot wait to get started. Thanks to all our sponsors and fans for all the support. See you in 2014!”
