Date: Sunday, June 16

MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY POST RACE:

AJ Allmendinger finished in 19th-place racing the No. 47 Charter Toyota after starting 32nd in the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Greg Biffle won the event after 22 lead changes among 13 drivers in the 200-lap event. There were eight cautions for 38 laps. Jimmie Johnson is the current points leader.

JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter currently holds the 28th spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series owners standings leading into Sonoma Raceway with driver Bobby Labonte back behind the wheel.

JTG DAUGHERTY RACING QUOTES:

Pleased with progress during race: "I was happy with how we improved the No. 47 Charter car throughout the race," AJ Allmendinger said. "When we started in practice, we were way off. When we started the race, we were not great. By the end, the car was better. We improved it a lot. I was pretty happy with the progress of the car. I think there are some good things here to go off of and learn from. It's not like you want to celebrate with a 19th-place finish, but it's a decent day for what we had."

Deciphering a tough, but positive weekend: "I think at the end of the day we had a really tough weekend, but we rallied back from it during the race," JTG Daugherty Racing competition director Bobby Hutchens said. "We learned some things from AJ Allmendinger about our Charter Toyota and about our engine that we can carry forward with Bobby at Sonoma Raceway, Kentucky Speedway and so forth. It was a positive experience and we will build on it and go from there."

Overcoming obstacles: "AJ Allmendinger did a good job hanging with us today," JTG Daugherty Racing crew chief Brian Burns said. "We didn't really know what we had going into the race because of complications we had in practice - - just rear end parts failures that really put us back. We couldn't pinpoint when it happened. It could have been when we unloaded the car that we started fighting it. It's hard to figure out what setup to start with when you have something like that happen. AJ worked with us the first half of the race and gave us a lot of information that helped us get the Charter Toyota Camry tuned in for him. In the end, we were on the lead lap and AJ took advantage of some extra spots. He was driving pretty hard."

Focused on improving: "The team is just trying to get better," AJ Allmendinger said. "Whatever they feel is going to help them get better, I'm trying to help whether it's just providing some more information, a different outlook or whatever they need. For me, it just gives me another kind of knowledge for myself of what a different car feels like. I don't know if it's good or bad unfortunately. I'm figuring out what all cars feel like. Obviously, we would like to go out there and be the fastest car and all that, but that's not realistic either. It's a building process. It's tough for me because I don't even know what I'm doing from week to week or next year or all that. If somehow I can contribute to make this team better then I'm happy."
