TEAM QUOTES:
Running around the top 10 Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway, AJ Allmendinger and JTG Daugherty Racing’s campaign for their best mile-and-a-half finish came to an end abruptly when something mysteriously went wrong with the No. 47 SCOTT® Products Chevrolet SS. When the rear of the car started moving around and shot sideways, it led Allmendinger to believe he had a right rear tire going down. The incident caused Allmendinger to pit under green at lap 211 giving up valuable track position. The end result was a 22nd-place finish.

“It was the most competitive mile-and-a-half car we have had all season Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway thanks to all the hard work from the team,” Allmendinger said. "We had a top-10 car or top-15 for sure. We were running just outside the top 10 when all the sudden I thought I had a right rear tire going down. The back end was moving around and when I went into Turn 3, it turned sideways on me and I smelled smoke. Because I thought I had a flat, I pitted and then the caution came out. We ran out of laps to get track position back and had to settle for a 22nd-place finish. That’s tough when you have a good car. It was another solid race for the pit crew too because they did a great job all night. I’m grateful for everyone’s hard work and we’ll try to turn things around at Daytona International Speedway.”

“We had a strong night going and definitely felt like we had a top-10 car,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “Every time we got track position, we were always better than the next few cars ahead of us. Running 10th or 11th, we had kind of a mystery problem with the right rear. AJ thought it was a flat and he was trying to be safe. He came down pit road under green and we never rebounded from it. Unfortunate for the finish, but we definitely know we had a strong car and we are getting better at these mile-and-a-half tracks.”
