BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 47 BUSH'S® BEANS TOYOTA CAMRY MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY POST RACE REPORT

Track: Martinsville Speedway
Event: STP Gas Booster 500
Date & Time: Sunday, April 7th
Start: 31st
Finish: 21st

Martinsville Speedway Recap:

Bobby Labonte was running inside the top 15 in the final stages of the 500-lap event at Martinsville Speedway, but the No. 47 BUSH'S® Toyota Camry's day ended with a 21st-place finish Sunday afternoon. There was a red flag at lap 487 because Kyle Busch's machine was engulfed in flames. Crew chief Brian Burns made a gutsy call keeping Labonte on track instead of pitting for four tires and fuel. The decision positioned Labonte in 12th place for the final restart. Restarting at lap 492, Labonte was in a tough spot with older tires having to start on the outside lane. On lap 494, he was 11th, but got shuffled out of the top-15 at lap 496. He crossed the finish line in 21st-place.

The good news is that 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion picked up three spots in the drivers points standings and is currently 28th, 126 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson. Labonte is only 67 points out of 10th place.

JTG Daugherty Racing Quotes:

"Staying out gave us good track position, but restarting on the outside with old tires hurt us," Bobby Labonte said.

"To stay out was the right call," crew chief Brian Burns said. "We just had the misfortune of having to start on the outside lane. If we would have had one less car that pitted, it would have put us starting on the inside. We probably would have finished in the top-12 if we started on the inside."

Tailgater of the Week:

It was all about horseshoes, great food and good times at Rich Haverstrom's campsite that captured the attention of the JTG Daugherty Racing Tailgate Patrol. The Charlottesville, Virginia native has been visiting Martinsville Speedway for 10 years.

"We play horseshoes and have a great time," Haverstrom said. "We've got a big group that comes to Martinsville Speedway every year. It's a long story, but somehow we're all related. I guess you can say we're brothers from another mother."

It was ironic Haverstrom was selected because he said Corpus Christi, Texas-native Bobby Labonte was his first driver that he supported in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Haverstrom spent some time in Texas himself, more specifically Austin and he was wearing the hat to prove it.

"I've always liked Bobby Labonte especially since he's from Texas and I spent some time in Texas," Haverstrom said. "He was the first guy I pulled for in NASCAR. I also pull for Clint Bowyer now."

Haverstrom also admitted he was a big fan of JTG Daugherty Racing's brands.

"My favorite thing we grill is brisket," said Haverstrom, who was a fan of the Kingsford brand and other team brands. "We also eat BUSH'S Beans and use Clorox products."
