Event: Pure Michigan 400
Date/Time: Sunday, August 28th / 2 PM ET
TV Network/Radio: NBCSN / MRN / SIRIUSXM
Kroger Jackson store appearance: "I'll be at Kroger (1100 W Argyle Street, Jackson, MI) this Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM," Allmendinger said. “We always have a lot of fun and you can count on that. Thanks to Kroger, this is a great opportunity to meet fans. Also, there’s a lot of activities for the family no matter your age. Stop by the store and grab an autograph or check out all the activities happening in front of the store as part of Kroger Fan Fest. You can also stock up on groceries and tailgating supplies if you’re coming out to the race or pick up what you need for your home. We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday.”
Hard work pays off: “The first race didn’t go the way I had hoped for, but I’m looking forward to going back to Michigan International Speedway,” Allmendinger said. “My guys have been working really hard on getting our car better for that place. In regards to the lower downforce package, we’ve been a little behind, but all the work my guys have put in over the last few weeks will make us really good. I like what they’ve done to our Michigan car to make it better than we were our first trip to Michigan this season. Ernie Cope (competition director) is leading the ship and he’s really taking us in the direction we need to go and all my guys have been working hard.”
Better luck this time: “We had a top 15 car in our last outing at Michigan, but we got collected in an accident and that killed our day,” Allmendinger said. “I think all the extra hours my guys put into this car is going to show and I think we’re going to have a lot of speed.”
Momentum: “We’ve had a top-five and a top-10 in the two most recent events,” Allmendinger said. “We look forward to keeping that momentum going into Michigan this weekend.”
Michigan does it right: “Michigan does a great job connecting with our fans and puts on a good show for them because they’re what it’s all about,” Allmendinger said. “The infield is always alive any hour of the day/night and it’s always a good time. Also, the track has lined up concerts and activities for fans of all ages. This year they are calling it Keloorah, which is a two-day concert festival for ticket holders leading up to the races. So, after you go to Kroger to pick up your groceries and tailgate items - Kingsford Charcoal, BUSH’S Beans, SCOTT Products - you name it, go check it out.”
Looking for results: “Michigan has the lower downforce package that they are talking about for 2017,” crew chief Randall Burnett said. “We were okay there in the spring. We definitely had some work to do. We got caught up in a wreck running in the top 15. We were in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught up in a wreck with Jr. (Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Chris Buescher). We’re going to go up there and trying something a little different. We were okay, but probably weren’t good enough. We are going to go up there and work really hard. We are going to try a different setup package, unload and see what we got.”
