“The first few laps the car was pretty good, but that’s all I could really tell,” Allmendinger said. “I made a few good moves, gained some positions and the car felt pretty good in traffic. The motor popped again. We went a whole year and five races without ever a motor issue. We will try to rebound. I think the car was good, but it’s hard to tell when you are out there like that. I thought it was decent. It’s just stuff like this is what hurts us, mechanical. It’s easy for a big team to come back and just stack points again. Hopefully, we can go on to Martinsville Speedway and have better luck. It’s always been a good track for us.”
“These are things that happen when you are pushing the limit trying to get as much horsepower out of the car that you can,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “We’re not going to let this bring us down. We know we had a car that was probably a top five car. So, we have to walk away thinking that. We felt like we were just as good as the No. 27 (Paul Menard) racing with them and all the RCR (Richard Childress Racing) cars looked strong.”
