CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY PREVIEW

TEAM QUOTES:

House-Autry: “We’re looking forward to having House-Autry on the car as primary for Charlotte Motor Speedway,” Allmendinger said. “They have great pride in helping family meals become as Southern as possible and bringing families together. They have so many great products, but I think their hushpuppy mix is their best-selling. They have great breaders for chicken, pork and beef and some fun recipe ideas. Right now they are running a cool contest where you can submit your own favorite chicken recipe and challenge their chefs to give it a new twist. If they select your recipe you will win a bunch of House-Autry products and a $100 gift card.”

Charlotte Motor Speedway: “Overall, I think hopefully we’ve learned some things over the last couple of weeks that will help us going into Charlotte Motor Speedway to be better,” Allmendinger said. “Charlotte is probably one of the most temperature sensitive racetracks we race at for sure. Practice is somewhat during the day and that makes racing at night there always a tough challenge just because that place changes so much from day to night. It doesn’t matter if it’s the 600 weekend or the 500 weekend, it’s always a difficult schedule trying to set your car up for the race. Hopefully, we will go there and be better.”

Todd Parrott helping out:  “We’ve got Todd Parrott helping us out,” JTG Daugherty Racing owner Tad Geschickter said. “He’s a part of the Childress (Richard Childress Racing) alliance and provides an extra resource to help us improve on the last seven races.”

All in: “I’m 100 percent with JTG Daugherty Racing and making our cars better,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “Richard Childress is willing to do what it takes to help us get stronger. He’s volunteered Todd’s experience and knowledge to work with us and help us identify some weak areas so we can get stronger.”

Glad to help: “We want JTG Daugherty Racing to succeed,” said Parrott. “RCR has a great partnership with the team. With the alliance, it makes sense for me to help out and I want to. There are some really good people at JTG Daugherty Racing that work really hard and I know AJ is a passionate guy capable of winning races.”

Sensitive track: “Charlotte can be a challenge to set the car up because it’s such a temperature sensitive track,” Burns said. “During the fall, it may not be as bad as it is in the summer, but we have to plan for it. When the sun sets, the grip level picks up during the race. We’ve got a good idea for what kind of balance and feel we need for the race.”

Chassis: “We are bringing 522 that we have set aside for a while so we could work on it to get everything out of the car,” Burns said. “We’ve dedicated a lot of hours into this mile-and-a-half car.”

Home sweet home:  “Being home this week, I think it’s a bigger deal for the crew guys honestly,” Allmendinger said. “For us, we get to have our family and friends show up at the track when we want to. I always feel like the Charlotte races are a bigger deal for the crew guys to go home each day and see their families that they haven’t seen much all year basically. We’re on the road so much and it’s great that they are able to have that time at home and be able to sleep in their own beds.”

Extra time to prepare: “It’s definitely relaxing to be at home, but also it gives us the opportunity to really prep for the Phoenix (International Raceway) test next week,” Burns said. “We have more people at the shop to get ready for the test. It works out better having us here this week.”

Phoenix Test: “We ran decent there in the spring, but that’s where we lost one of our key players when our jack man got hurt,” Burns said. “We have a good baseline package and we are going to be aggressive with our work with the alliance and changing up things to get better. We’ve reached out to RCR for more support. We are appreciative of their help.”
