MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

After a battery terminal issue on Friday during qualifying and an accident in practice on Saturday due to a blown tire, AJ Allmendinger finished in 18th-place at Michigan International Speedway in a backup car that he had no laps on it prior to the race on Sunday.
“We made the most of it for sure," Allmendinger said. "My guys did a good job to get the No. 47 Kroger ClickList Chevy built and out on the racetrack. Actually, the car wasn’t too bad. We were just fighting a little bit too loose in the corners. I would get in clean air and the car wasn’t too bad. We were hurting down the straightaways. So, it was tough to pass cars.
"As a group (Richard Childress Racing alliance), we were all racing each other," Allmendinger continued. "I thought we maximized the day to get a top-20 finish out of it. I thought maybe I could get a top-15 finish on the restart. The pit crew did a good job and Ernie (Cope) and all the guys just making calls to maximize our day. That is what we had to do. We know we've got a lot of work to do and we'll keep after it. We'll turn our focus to Sonoma Raceway, which is a place I love.”
