QUOTES:

A gear failure around Lap 166 disrupted AJ Allmendinger’s efforts in his No. 47 Kroger ClickList Chevrolet SS at Richmond International Raceway relegating him to a 37th-place finish Sunday afternoon.

“It was a really tough day for us,” Allmendinger said. “We were trying to get a handle on the car. Before halfway, I smelled smoke and I didn’t know if it was a brake leak or what. So, we had to go to the garage and diagnose what was wrong. It burned up a gear. So, the guys had to change the gear.

“Once we were laps down from being in the garage changing the gear, we tried to learn some things because it was really tight and a handful to drive,” Allmendinger continued. “We tried a different spring and some other things in hopes to learn something for the fall race."
