AJ Allmendinger and the JTG Daugherty Racing team overcame several obstacles to finish 16th with the No. 47 BUSH'S Grillin' Beans Chevrolet SS Monday at Pocono Raceway. Allmendinger was credited with leading laps 119-120 before a restart when he realized he had a flat right-rear tire forcing him to pit, which was one of many challenges the team faced. The finish keeps Allmendinger within striking distance of the top 16 in the driver points standings as he is currently 17th (four points out of 16th).

"I was really pleased with the car all day starting back (32nd) from where we did,” said Allmendinger, who had no practice before his qualifying attempt on Friday due to inclement weather. “Track position is really critical at Pocono. We got our No. 47 BUSH’S Grillin’ Beans Chevrolet SS positioned in the top 12 about 40 laps into the race and we were really pleased with that. Overall, the car was pretty good, but I never got any clean air so I could never really see how fast it really was. I thought we were working our strategy right and everything was going really well and then everything kind of fell apart with our day. We got a lap down when a caution came out and from there basically everything went against us. On the next restart, I had to miss Tony (Stewart) wrecking and go down to the inside of the track and I hit some really big bumps. We were forced to pit to make sure everything was okay underneath the car. Then on the next restart, we got contact with a slower car and we had to pit again. I thought we were going to work the strategy pretty good there.  We stayed out to take the lead and under that yellow we had a flat right rear tire. So, I had to restart at the back of the field. The BUSH’S Grillin’ Beans Chevy was good and I was trying to take care of it at the end. I thought some more guys would have to pit or start running out of gas and it never happened. Overall, we were pretty pleased with the car. I think there may be some little stuff that we can work on to get some more speed out it to be in that next top echelon of cars, but the car was pretty good. I just never had clean air. With everything that happened, 16th is not bad. It could have been a lot worse."

"We had that deal where we pitted and the caution came out and we had to do the wave-around," said interim crew chief Ernie Cope (competition director). "We got some track position and then we had an incident with the No. 46 car (Michael Annett). We had to come in and pit to get the body off the tires. We then changed up our pit strategy and as AJ was first (under yellow) he realized he had a flat tire. Nothing seemed to be going the right way for us, but with 35 laps to go we got the most out of it that we could."
