DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY SPRINT UNLIMITED POST RACE REPORT

Sprint Unlimited Start:  Third
Sprint Unlimited Finish: 21st (Accident)

TEAM QUOTES:

AJ Allmendinger’s night abruptly ended during the Sprint Unlimited when Kasey Kahne’s No. 5 machine was turned from behind and sailed sideways into the No. 47 Kroger/Stouffer’s/Lean Cuisine Chevrolet SS. It was the second of two accidents Allmendinger was involved in that was not of his own making. He finished 21st after completing 56 of 79 laps.

“The first incident, (Brian) Vickers started crashing and that’s all I could see,” Allmendinger said. “Actually, I got the car stopped way early for the wreck and (Greg) Biffle drove through the back of us. That’s where the damage came from. We tried to make a bad situation good and it gave the guys a chance to repair the car with Randall (Burnett) leading damage control. I thought they did a great job and got everything fixed on the right rear as best as they could.

“The only place I could really run, where I had decent speed, was running the top,” Allmendinger said. “I was just trying to run the outside line and make up as much as I could. I thought we had a good run going and we were about to clear everybody on the bottom. I think Jamie (McMurray) turned the No. 5 (Kasey Kahne) and crashed us.

“Saturday night gave Randall and me a chance to learn and talk to each other,” Allmendinger said. “I thought he did a good job leading the guys telling them exactly what we needed to do to fix the car. It will be a lot different when we get away from the speedways and we are talking to each other more because here Coleman (Pressley, spotter) is talking more. It was good to at least get going.”

“It was good tonight," crew chief Randall Burnett said. "We got to work together on the radio for the first time and work some bugs out - - just how he likes to hear things. I got to work with the pit crew about getting the damage repaired and they did a great job. Our car was good as long as we could get up top. We were able to move forward, but we just got caught up in an unfortunate incident that put us in the garage.”
