Track: Daytona International Speedway
Race: Daytona 500
Date/Time: Sunday, February 22nd at 1 PM ET
“I'm glad we were able to finish," Allmendinger said. "I thought I nailed the restart to get about 10 spots there at the end. I split the middle. I had a massive run on the outside then the No. 18 (Matt Crafton) got squeezed four wide and it just killed my run. So, then we all got bottlenecked up and they started wrecking. I thought I was going to miss it all and maybe get a top-10 or top-15 out of it. I was wide open and then the No. 44 (Reed Sorenson) came across the nose. I just stayed wide open and moved him out of the way. At least we finished.
"You would love to get a top-10 or obviously try to win the race, but I always look at it if you can finish this race – not that a top-20 is something that you want to celebrate – it’s not a bad deal," Allmendinger said. "That’s the middle of the road points and hopefully that allows us to get to Atlanta Motor Speedway and really start focusing on the season."
"I think AJ ran a smart race because we had to start in the back with our backup car," JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said. "We kept the fenders on it for a long time. We had a little misfortune, but I think the team is maturing because it did not derail us like it has in the past. I think we had a huge run up on the top before the No. 18 checked up and we could have finished in the top-10. I think we had a good race."
