AJ Allmendinger finished in 14th-place Sunday night in the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway and ran as high as fourth place before bringing home the team’s 13th top-15 finish of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. After race number 34, Allmendinger is currently 12th in the driver points standings, only six points out of 10th.
“The guys did a good job of making the car better all day from where we started,” Allmendinger said. “There were a couple of little mistakes here and there. At the end, we got a fresh set of tires one pit stop too late. If we would have got them one stop earlier and started up there, we would have been a little bit better. Overall, to get everything that we did and finish where we did is pretty good. I was proud of the guys. This is two weeks in a row where I thought we have made the car better throughout the race. So, we are making progress in that. To have another top-15 is another good day for us."
“The team did a nice job of recovering from so many obstacles to finish in the top-15 at Texas Motor Speedway Sunday night,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “From a flat tire, a broken shifter, sliding through the pit box and so forth. It was a challenging race, but we were able to knock out a top-15 finish and that’s not a bad day at all. We are continuing to make progress and we look forward to showing everyone what we are capable of when there are no obstacles during the race. I'm proud of everyone.”
