TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY POST RACE REPORT

Track: Talladega Superspeedway
Event: Geico 500
Race Date / Time: Sunday, October 19 / 2 PM ET
TV / Radio: ESPN / MRN / SIRIUSXM
Start:  Third
Finish: 23rd

TEAM QUOTES:

After starting third at Talladega Superspeedway, AJ Allmendinger finished 23rd with a wrecked No. 47 SCOTT® Products Chevrolet SS that the JTG Daugherty Racing team diligently pieced back together beginning around lap 104 to finish on the lead lap.

“I tried to be smart and miss everything, but I still couldn’t do it,” Allmendinger said. “I have no clue of what exactly happened honestly. We got collected in a wreck. I was just riding behind the No. 3 car (Austin Dillon) getting ready to pit at that point and the wreck started happening. I thought I was fine because I got it checked up, but then I guess maybe the No. 3 hit the No. 18 (Kyle Busch) and it turned him into us and drug us into the wall.

“I think our SCOTT® Products Chevrolet SS was really fast running the top before that happened,” Allmendinger continued. “As Tad said to me earlier, I’m one of the best guys to suck up. The guys did a good job. They got the car fixed enough to where I could get back out there. We just needed luck to get our lap back and at the very end we did. We just ran out of time. Really the only thing that would hold me back is that I think the ductwork was all knocked in. So, the car would overheat as soon as I got in the pack. We salvaged as much as we could with a wrecked race car.”
