NOTES AND QUOTES:
The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup is on and AJ Allmendinger is one of 16 drivers eligible to win the 2014 championship. Following their 23rd-place finish at Richmond International Raceway with the No. 47 BUSH’S® Grillin’ Beans® Chevrolet SS, Allmendinger and JTG Daugherty Racing have shifted their focus to the Challenger Round kicking off with the opening race at Chicagoland Speedway Sunday, September 14th at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio followed by New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Dover International Speedway respectively.

“We’re in the Chase and that’s pretty cool,” Allmendinger said. “It was a tough race at Richmond International Raceway, but Watkins Glen International is indeed a great memory and got us into the Chase. The race for me was no fun. It looked really fun for the cars that were hooked up. The last couple of weeks have been tough on us. I was hoping to get some momentum going into the Chase with a strong finish at Richmond. At the same point, we knew we might have to sacrifice the last couple of races because we don’t have many race cars in the shop and we had to get our three best cars ready for the first three Chase races.

“I feel like if we are at our best, we have a shot to get through the first three races and have a shot to move on to the Contender Round,” Allmendinger continued. “We did a test at Charlotte Motor Speedway and RCR (Richard Childress Racing) has given us a new car to get ready for Chicago (Chicagoland Speedway) this weekend. We’re in it so we have a shot at it. I’ll quote Lloyd Christmas, ‘So, you are telling me there’s a chance.’”
