AJ Allmendinger finished 18th with an ill-handling No. 47 Kingsford Chevrolet SS that had a significantly cracked right-front nose at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon.
"I was okay on long runs and restarts, but it was just so bad loose that guys would just run right through me and we would lose track position," Allmendinger said. "We didn't give up and we fought hard. We had damage to the right-front of the car and I'm sure that had something to do with it. We're better than where we finished. We just got a little bit off and we had some damage to the car.
"The car is on such a fine line when you make changes," Allmendinger continued. "You can't make two good changes in a row. You sort of go back and forth trying to find the right balance in the car and that makes it hard. We got what we could out of the day. We'll go into the off week and hit the reset button and start fresh at Indy (Indianapolis Motor Speedway)."
"This is what good teams are made of because we missed it a little bit and AJ drove hard and got a top-18 out of it," JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said. "We've got some work to do, but that's a respectable finish with the way we ran all day."
Brad Keselowski won the event with Kyle Busch in tow. Kyle Larson finished third, Matt Kenseth was fourth and Ryan Newman rounded out the top-five in race number 19 of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Jeff Gordon is the current points leader. Allmendinger holds the 26th spot.
