The physical demands of pit road are natural for Tyler Rader, who is a former offensive lineman from West Virginia University. He played five years of football winning two BCS games. Simultaneously, he was working on his athletic coaching degree before moving to North Carolina and becoming a NASCAR pit crew member.
In 2012, Rader received the opportunity to join Richard Childress Racing (RCR) through taking part in their pit crew combine and was immediately hired as the gasman on the No. 3 NASCAR Nationwide Series team of Austin Dillon. That first season on pit road was a memorable one as he and his teammates won the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship.
Today, the Cross Lanes, West Virginia-native has circled the road course races on the calendar, where he feels most confident about celebrating a win with his new teammates and driver AJ Allmendinger.
