Being in the right place at the right time is the way rear tire carrier Dan Koozer explains how his career on pit road began five years ago. Following school at Midland Lutheran College, where he played defensive end on the school’s football team, Koozer moved to North Carolina. His first opportunity in racing was working for Brent Sherman’s ARCA team. He began on a Wednesday and found himself on pit road just a matter of days later.
Koozer impressed with his natural ability on pit road. The Eagle, Nebraska-native’s skills helped transfer him to different racing series like the Hooters Pro Cup, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series and eventually the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
He notes his most memorable moment on pit road as winning the NASCAR Camping World Truck race at Texas Motor Speedway in 2013 while pitting on the No. 4 truck of Jeb Burton. It was Burton’s career-first victory, which made it even sweeter.
Today, he is looking forward to going to the track each weekend having the opportunity to interact with fans and educate them about the job of a NASCAR pit crew member. Koozer is anticipating 2014 being a successful and enjoyable season team both on the track and on pit road.
