If you are looking for an insurance agent, look no further. Our newest member and rear tire carrier Chip Goode works for North Carolina Farm Bureau in Harrisburg, N.C. before traveling to each NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. He may be new to JTG Daugherty Racing, but he is not new to the sport. Goode has worked for some of the best teams in the business. Like most, his interest in racing started at a young age when he traveled the East Coast with this father to watch races. His father found his way into the sport and started helping Steve Mill by working on Mark Martin’s car on the weekends. One thing led to another and Goode accepted a position at Roush Racing in 1998 with Chad Little’s team. Over a seven year span at Roush, he also worked on Jeff Burton, Carl Edwards and Kevin Lepage’s teams. He was a rear tire carrier and worked in business services among other things. In 2005, his path led him to Chip Ganassi Racing where he worked with Jamie McMurray, Casey Mears and Juan Pablo Montoya. For nearly a decade at Ganassi, he wore many hats from pit crew coach, rear tire carrier and account management.

He comes to JTG Daugherty Racing after a short stint with BK Racing. Goode enjoys the idea of working for a smaller team where he feels he has the chance to make a difference and be highly competitive on pit road. Not only is he fond of the team because he has friends at JTG Daugherty Racing, but he likes AJ’s driving style and believes he has a lot of talent and will continue to be successful.

In all his years in racing, he states that winning the 2001 Coca-Cola 600 with Jeff Burton stands out the most. His teammate Mark “Hollywood” Armstrong convinced the crew to climb the fence following suit to Hélio Castroneves’ winning the Indy 500 and climbing the fence earlier that day. Outside of racing, an interesting fact about Goode is that he played UNCC Men’s Rugby. He also raced go-karts and finished second in the 1991 National Dirt Series championship for junior super stock.
