Known by the nickname, “Utah”, Channing Filler grew up watching his uncle race Indy cars and always had a passion for motorsports. Following high school, the Woods Cross, Utah-native moved from his home state to North Carolina with the goal of entering the racing world as a driver. However in 2007, he found himself at Hendrick Motorsports learning how to change tires. For the past six seasons, Filler has been on pit road working for various teams in multiple NASCAR Series and joins JTG Daugherty Racing as the front tire changer for the 2014 season.
He notes that his most memorable moment on pit road took place this past year while pitting for the No. 27 team during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Following an on-track incident, the No. 27 car’s right rear tire exploded causing the car to be engulfed in flames. Filler had to pull driver Paul Menard out of the burning car.
Filler is enthusiastic about building relationships with his new teammates, working with them to become a consistently strong pit crew and hopes his contributions along with the crew will help position the team in The Chase.
