A 13 year veteran on NASCAR’s pit road, Michael Klein enters the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season not only as the Jackman on the No. 47 Sprint Cup Series team of AJ Allmendinger, but also as the team’s pit crew coach and parts department manager.
Klein’s interest in racing was sparked while racing at Rockford Speedway in Illinois growing up. After moving to North Carolina, he connected with Venturini Motorsports and had the opportunity to work for their ARCA team on his journey to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2004.
During his time on pit road, Klein has been a part of various NASCAR teams including Phoenix Racing, BAM Racing, and Roush Fenway Racing and has been a member of JTG Daugherty Racing since 2008. His most memorable moment as a pit crew member was his first win going to victory lane with Jamie McMurray on July 7, 2007 at Daytona International Speedway with Roush.
In addition to his duties with the team, Klein is a certified personal trainer, holds four national records in bench press, and is the 2011 and 2014 North American Bench Press National Champion.
Klein notes that the most enjoyable part of his position as a Jackman is the competitive atmosphere on pit road having the ability to mix athletics with racing.
